from time to time we all get to a point where we feel like life is robotic. our routine is no longer enjoyable as it once was and we’re longing for something exciting in our day-to-day. Instead of waiting for that exciting thing, we’re going to make it happen ourselves.
hobbies are a great way to spice thing up in life and make a normal day a lot better, as you get to leave your daily routine and do something fun and sometimes out of your comfort zone. this is what hobbies are all about: an activity, interest, or pastime that is undertaken for pleasure or relaxation, done during one's own leisure time.
here are five new hobbies for you to start right now!
— CROCHET
crocheting has been an incredible journey for me, especially when it comes to managing anxiety and finding joy in the little things. two years ago, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands and feeling pretty helpless. that's when I picked up a crochet hook and started diving into this craft. little did I know how much it would change my life. the rhythmic motions of stitching and the soft feel of the yarn quickly brought a sense of calm to my mind. it was like all my anxious thoughts just melted away, and I found myself fully present in the moment. every stitch became a release of tension and a wave of peacefulness washed over me. but you know what? crocheting also brought me so much happiness. watching a project take shape filled me with this amazing sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. it's not just a hobby anymore — it's become my go-to when I need some peace and quiet time alone.
— PAINTING
the COVID-19 pandemic brought unexpected changes into my life, and one of the silver linings was a newfound appreciation for painting as a form of self-expression. tn the past, I struggled with painting due to the pressure of creating something perfect or following rigid plans. however, during these uncertain times, I made a conscious decision to let go of those expectations and embrace the freedom of painting without predetermined ideas. this shift in perspective completely transformed my relationship with the canvas. painting became a powerful outlet for my emotions, allowing me to channel my thoughts and feelings onto the blank surface. through this process, I discovered the beauty of imperfection and the joy of spontaneous creation. each painting became a reflection of my inner world, a visual representation of my emotions, hopes, and dreams. while not all of my artworks turned out as I had envisioned, they carried a positive and fulfilling impact on my overall well-being.
— CERAMICS
attending a ceramics workshop was a total game-changer for me. I got to make this little pot that looked totally silly, but you know what? it made me appreciate handmade ceramics and all their flaws even more. it's amazing to see how each piece is unique because of the human touch. imperfections are what give them character and make them special. it’s a reminder that perfection isn't always better. now I'm totally hooked on ceramics as a hobby, and I can't wait to keep exploring and making more funky creations. it's all about embracing the unexpected and celebrating the beauty of imperfections.
— GARDENING
being a "plant mom" and bringing plants into your home is such a fun and amazing journey. as someone who's new to the plant world, I get super excited about every new leaf or bud that pops up — it's like a little victory for me! you start to learn what each plant needs, like how much sunlight they crave and how often to water them. watching them grow and seeing those leaves unfurl and flowers bloom is so satisfying and makes me feel proud. having indoor plants is like having a natural retreat in the midst of our busy lives — it's refreshing and calming. and the more you get into it, the more you'll want to explore different types of plants, try out propagation (which is basically making new plants from cuttings), and become a pro at keeping your indoor garden thriving. but hey, don't stress about it! start with the easy-to-care-for plants and go from there. enjoy the journey!
— COOKING
I've always loved cooking [ always had great influences as my mom and my dad are both amazing cooks ], but sometimes I get caught up in the daily meal prep grind. but when I actually have time to cook and let loose in the kitchen, it's pure bliss. I absolutely love it. I feel like I can unleash my inner chef and get all creative with flavors and recipes. no rushing, no pressure — just me, my ingredients, and a world of possibilities. I can take my sweet time chopping, mixing, and experimenting. and the best part? seeing the final result, a dish that's not only tasty [ not all the time ] but also looks pretty amazing when I put in the work. these moments of kitchen freedom let me express myself and try new things. cooking quickly goes from a task to a total escape, a chance to show off my skills and make a meal that's not just delicious, but a feast for the eyes too.
